BRI’s Next Generation Viticulture team is hosting the Winter Pruning Workshop on Tuesday 15 July, to demonstrate pruning at the Constellation Brands NGV trail site.
Next Generation Viticulture (NGV) aims to increase vineyard profitability through the adoption of innovative, efficient canopy systems. The programme is co-funded by New Zealand Winegrowers, seven wine companies and the Ministry for Primary Industries.
This workshop provides an opportunity to view new ‘vertical cordon’ canopy systems (pictured below) in a developing trial site. Discussions will focus on pruning activities relating to the new systems, including the conversion from conventional VSP training to NGV systems, the stages involved to achieve a full canopy during conversion, and considerations for establishing NGV systems from new plantings.
The programme team will be on hand to answer any questions relating to NGV, and share early observations and results from this seven-year programme.
