BRI is delighted to welcome Dr Sachi Rana as our new Research Programme Manager.
Sachi has ten years of experience and a doctorate in biotechnology, specialising in Nanotechnology. Originally from India, Sachi had a light-bulb moment while writing her thesis and realised she wanted to have a career in the wine industry instead. She moved to New Zealand after her convocation to pursue her new career.
Sachi began her wine career with a Post Graduate Diploma in wine science from the University of Auckland. The science came easily to her but learning the sensory side of winemaking was a whole new experience.
Over the last seven years, Sachi has held a variety of roles in the wine industry across New Zealand, most recently as Assistant Winemaker at Indevin in Marlborough. Sachi is passionate about innovation in winemaking because it combines her previous career with her current one.
She is looking forward to drawing on her research experience to manage programmes that deliver research to fill knowledge gaps specific to New Zealand’s current and future grape growing and winemaking needs at BRI.
Sachi has also been accepted into the prestigious Master of Wine programme at The Institute of Masters of Wine this year.
