SB2.0 Grantor Open Day

Join the Bragato Research Institute Grapevine Improvement team at Lincoln for our grantors open day. The open day marks the midway point of SB2.0 in 2026 and is an opportunity to view our progress so far and learn about the next phase in the programme. Phase two will see the transition of the programme from plant production to sequencing, phenotyping and vine selection.

The open day gives you the opportunity to connect with the BRI GVI science team to discuss and explore the breeding programme, while delving into the findings from vine improvement projects.

Held the day after the International Cool Climate Symposium in Christchurch, we hope you can join us.

Programme

The GVI open day will start with a welcome and update on the programme, led by Darrell Lizamore. Here, we will discuss the current workstreams and future opportunities.

Following this, the day will include tours of three key areas of the GVI programme:

1. Breeding vineyard – Join Matt Corbett (Vineyard Manager) and Amy Hill (Laboratory Manager) in a tour of the breeding vineyard. Now fully developed and housing 10,000 unique SB clones, this is an opportunity to experience one of the most distinctive vineyards in New Zealand.

2. Molecular laboratory – Led by Annabel Whibley (Bioinformatician), Bhanu Vanga (Research Scientist), and Ellie Bradley (Research Associate), the molecular laboratory holds our sequencing, PCR, and Blackbird robot (high throughput imaging) capabilities and is the site of the sterile plant propagation work.

3. Plant propagation nursery and greenhouse centre – Join Cen Liau and Solomon Wante (Research Associates) to discuss plant propagation and phenotyping for desired traits that underpin the SB2.0 programme.
